Biography

Lindy Tennent-Brown is a freelance pianist, vocal coach, and music director. She has worked as a deputy keyboard player, audition and rehearsal pianist, and vocal coach on more than twenty West End music theatre productions, and has been engaged as opera music staff by The Royal Opera, Covent Garden, English National Opera, Glyndebourne Productions, Aldeburgh Productions, Scottish Opera, and Opera Holland Park, among others. Her private vocal coaching clients are employed in opera and music theatre internationally. For more than a decade, Lindy was a pianist for the Royal Ballet’s flagship outreach programme, Chance to Dance.

In 2015 Lindy was the music director for BAKKHAI at the Almeida Theatre with new music by Orlando Gough, directed by James Macdonald and starring Ben Wishaw and Bertie Carvel. She was the founding music director of EXPOSURE, a series of new opera cabaret ‘scratch-nights’ at the Linbury Theatre, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and has conducted world premieres by Oscar-winning composer, Anne Dudley, Julian Philips, and Evangelia Rigaki. She was the assistant music director for Richard Thomas’ dance-musical Shoes at Sadlers Wells in 2010, and has years of experience teaching vocal techniques and songs to groups of actors and singers of all ages and levels of experience, in both workshop and rehearsal settings.

Lindy studied piano with Margaret Fingerhut and Martin Roscoe at the Royal Northern College of Music, where she won all the available prizes for accompaniment and répétiteur work and held the RNCM Junior Fellowship in Accompaniment 2000-01. For two years 2001-03, Lindy was the Legal & General Junior Fellow in Piano at the Royal College of Music in London. She was an inaugural Wigmore Young Artist at Wigmore Hall 2004-06, and has given concerts with singers at all the major London and regional venues. Lindy is one of the leading collaborative pianists of her generation and has performed live on BBC Radio 3 and in the Aldeburgh, Warwick, Gower, and Bude Festivals, and the Snape Proms.
